Why you should befriend your shadow

Updated: Jun 4

When our nervous system is out of whack, it makes it hard to do just about everything when it comes to living life. An out of sync nervous system can show up in different ways - we don't sleep well, our digestion is off, our immunity is down, we have a hard time making decisions and our judgement is off. We kind of stumble through life in a blur, unable to really live our life.

There are three reasons why we should learn to befriend our nervous system.

  1. Trauma, simple stated, is a lens we see our experiences and our life through. This lens taints everything we come across and it impacts the judgments and decisions we make. Understanding and working your way through trauma will help to resolve this dysregulated state so that you can make decisions from a healthy place and show up in your relationships in a healthy way. Life coaches like myself are not trained to help with trauma, you will need to see a mental health professional to get the help you need to heal.

  2. Everybody has stressors that come into our lives everyday. Learning how to build up your resilience and expand your capacity for stress will help you live a deeper, more meaningful life.

  3. Adversity has been said to be our shadow, it follows us everywhere we go. It doesn't matter how much money we have, how many vacations we take or what our job is. Learning to handle adversity will help us build our bandwidth so that we can show up to ourselves and to those we love.

When we learn to befriend our nervous system, we up level the quality of our whole life.
