Embracing fun and not so fun self-care

Updated: Mar 1

One of the workbooks that I offer is titled, "Beyond the Bubbles." It is a workbook that focuses on self-care as being more than a bubble bath. We always think about self-care as pedicures, massages, bubble baths, etc. But self-care really is about so much more. I came across a self-care definition one time that said something that eluded to self-care not always feeling good. I think we get so caught up in thinking self-care needs to feel good, we forget about the not-so-feel-good part. What kinds of self care things come up for you when you think of the ones that make us a little uncomfortable? One of the things I think of is setting boundaries. Setting boundaries isn't always fun and it can make us uncomfortable and put us in a space that is unfamiliar to us.

Another uncomfortable form of self-care is denial. Denial of the things that sound really good or sound fun, but that we know aren't good for us. An example might be missing out on a fun night with friends or family so that we can get the sleep we know our body needs.

What are some uncomfortable things you do to take care of yourself?
